ARTISTIC ABILITIES is a nonprofit organization committed to creative expression for all, serving individuals with or without disabilities in the Fort Collins area. The intent of this organization is to support people with disabilities in finding ways to express themselves through art. The creation of art can be fun, but is also a serious form of personal expression. The mission of ARTISTIC ABILITIES is to help build community and to foster socialization among all artists. Art Education students teach ARTISTIC ABILITIES classes on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons during the spring semester. CSU students are responsible for developing a curriculum, teaching, accommodating, documenting, and exhibiting art for students in this program. The portfolios below are documents of teaching and learning.
Documentation shows ARTISTIC ABILITIES students that their work is valued and provides an archive that traces the history of the class and the pleasure in the process of learning experienced by the students and teachers. It becomes a powerful tool for reflection and learning for both the teacher and student.
